Dear Colleagues,
On behalf of the Turkish National Committee on Illumination and the Organizing Committee, it is a great pleasure to invite you to the Conference Lux Europa 2009 in Istanbul: Turkey's most populous city, its cultural and financial centre. In its long history, Istanbul served as the capital city of the Roman Empire, the Byzantine Empire and the Ottoman Empire. The city was chosen as European Capital of Culture for 2010. The historic areas of Istanbul were added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1985.
The Conference venue is the Kabataş Cultural Centre at Ortaköy. The complex consists of three buildings and Feriye, one of them, reflects the architectural style of the nineteenth century. After the restoration in 1995, the cultural centre has become an exceptional spot with a splendid view of Bosphorus.
The main theme of the Conference is Lighting and the Environment. The Conference covers not only this subject, but also many others on natural and artificial lighting. There will be a platform to discuss research works from different countries around the world.
A rich social and cultural program will complement the scientific exchange during the
conference. You will discover the history and beauty of Istanbul while attending the conference.
The Organizing Committee looks forward to welcoming you to the 11th European Lighting
Conference. We hope you will enjoy your visit to Istanbul and remember it with enthusiastic memories.
Sincerely yours,
Mehmet Ş. KÜÇÜKDOGU
Chairman of the Organizing Committee and
President of the Turkish National Committee on Illumination
