A warm invitation to the Sixth European Cytogenetic Conference in Istanbul , July 7-10, 2007. The site of the conference is one of the most attractive and vivid European cities with a long and splendid tradition. Istanbul , the word stems from the Greek “eis ten polin”, to the city, as Byzanz, Konstantinopolis was the city of the Mediterranean world during the late antique and entire medieval period. Compared to it, not only Paris , London , and Vienna , but also Rome were small and less important. Istanbul offers not only cultural attractions spanning the antique via the medieval Byzantine to the Islamic, particularly Osman, art. It has an active modern artist scene as well. It also has the flair of a vivid international southern European metropole with the well-known Turkish tradition of hospitality where the West and the East, where Europe and the Orient, and Christianity and Islam meet in a mostly peaceful way of mutual inspiration.
