Dear Friends and Colleagues,
It is my distinct honour and sincere pleasure to invite you to the 87th Congress of the
European Orthodontic Society to be held in Istanbul, Turkey, from the 19-23 June 2011.
We are very proud and also very excited about this event, as it will be the first European
Orthodontic Society Congress ever held in Turkey.
Istanbul, the capital of the Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman empires, is one of the world's most magical and enchanting cities. Walking on the streets of Istanbul you can feel the splendour of the past along with the cultural and commercial pulse of a modern city. The European Capital of Culture for 2010, Istanbul is hosting numerous cultural and artistic events, and exhibitions. The congress venue, Istanbul Convention & Exhibition Centre (ICEC), is located in a central and beautiful area of the city, with close proximity to many hotels, museums and shopping areas.
The scientific programme will include topics such as bone anchorage, adjunctive surgery in
orthodontics and 3D imaging, as well as providing a new insight into temporomandibular joint
disorders and contemporary dentofacial treatment. The Sheldon Friel Memorial Lecturer 2011 is Professor Ravindra Nanda who will give a five-decade perspective of biomechanics and aesthetic concepts. Keynote lectures and pre- and post-symposium courses will be delivered by some of the most distinguished speakers in the orthodontic field. There will be plenty of opportunities to discuss and share research interests and to present original work.
An entertaining social programme will be available for participants and guests. The evening events of the congress will take place in attractive locations which reflect the rich spirit of Istanbul...
The Congress Outing and Silver Mill Competition will be held in the grounds of the Topkapı Palace, where attendees will discover the amazing treasures of the old imperial residence. The month of June in Istanbul offers nice weather with sunshine to fully enjoy the city. You will have a chance to renew old friendships and establish new ones in a unique atmosphere.
