Dear Colleague, On behalf of the NWAC Team and the Scientific Program Committee I look forward to welcoming you to the third annual NWAC World Anesthesia Convention, April 24-28, 2012 in Istanbul, Turkey. NWAC is a USA-based global educational organization with world-wide presence, independent of transnational politics, international conflicts, and political disagreements. In its 5 years of existence, NWAC has trained countless doctors and other health care professionals from across the globe. In line with NWAC’s apolitical stance, NWAC 2012 Istanbul will be largest to date, a true bridging of nations, with some 140 contributing top-faculty from around the world. The selection of the location for the NWAC Convention 2012 in Istanbul, Turkey is not coincidental. Similarly to how NWAC strives to provide a networking bridge between nations, educators, and clinicians in the developed and developing world, Istanbul has been a melting pot of culture and commerce. Additionally, Istanbul is raved to be an accessible, convenient and superbly attractive hub for professional gatherings. The goals of the NWAC Convention 2012 in Istanbul are: Delivery of a one-of-a-kind, uncompromising Global Didactic Curriculum Advancement of Research and Academia in the field of Anesthesiology and beyond Foster networking and international/inter-institutional relationship building Build relationship among academicians, practitioners and industry in quest for better and safer patient care. To meet these goals, the NWAC Convention 2012 Istanbul will showcase cutting edge presentations by some of the most sought after experts in the field of recent developments in clinical and practical aspects in Anesthesiology, Intensive Care, Regional Anesthesia, Pain, and Perioperative Medicine. A multitude of workshop sessions, panels, and problem-based luncheons will provide both intensive learning through hands-on experiences and direct interaction with faculty. Sessions on innovation, research, medical intelligence, and policy making, as well as a scientific abstracts competition will take place to review and forecast current practice trends in Anesthesiology. The Scientific Program Committee is comprised of top Anesthesiology, Critical Care, Pain, and Emergency Medicine leaders from around the globe. The Committee has selected an unprecedented group of over 100 faculty, workshops and problem-based learning discussions (PBLD) presenters to showcase comprehensive programs on nearly every aspect of Anesthesiology practice. Since its inception, NWAC has also featured the Academic Preceptorship Program (APP), an opportunity for allowing up-and-coming academicians and educators to gain exposure through their contribution to NWAC. Additionally, the NWAC Educational Scholarship Program sponsors a number of educators from within the developing world to attend the program. Istanbul was selected to be a European Capital of Culture in 2010 for its incredible history and tradition. Stately palaces, mosques and cathedrals lie beside chaotic bazaars, steaming hamams and poky nargile (hookah) establishments. In addition to the world-renowned food and culture, the music and dance are infamous in Bosphorus nightclubs: outdoor complexes of restaurants, bars, and dance floors located on the water.
